R2500 raised for Masiphumelele at Design Indaba!

The Learning Innovation Design Lab had a very exciting past few days at the Design Indaba where we shared ideas about our Play to Learn Lab at Masiphumelele. It was fantastic to be a part of the inspiring conversations that our exhibit sparked and our project was very well received.

To demonstrate how learning could be achieved through gaming, we invited you to play our Paper Jets Spelling. A small donation allowed players to to get creative and design their very own “game face”. Once their mask was created they were able to hook up to our matrix and then the real fun started. The DIY controllers we built using spare office equipment let players control a little paper jet on screen to try catch flying letters.

The simple yet innovative hardware design demonstrated how almost anything could be turned into a keyboard. The Paper Jets Spelling game tests your reflexes and is a creative tool for basic learning. All of this was running  off one of our PLOXXI cardboard computers

Together we raised R2500! Thanks to the contributions we received we were able to put one PLOXXI full of awesome Android games in our Masiphumelele Play to Learn Lab.Thank you so much to everyone who supported us at the expo.
